Makuta of Thraa
Thraa is a veritable paradise. It is a world of pure untainted beauty, where majestic mountains rise over flourishing forests and breathtaking desert vistas border vast oceans of sparkling crystal water. The native people of Thraa live in harmony with nature, as they are inextricably linked to the land and its creatures in perfect symbiosis. These natives can commune with the planet itself, and the myriad fauna are, for the vast majority, entirely cooperative with them. Though peace has reigned on Thraa for ages, it was not always this way.
In its infancy, Thraa became host to a terrible evil, in the form of a being of unmatched moral and physical depredation. Its mere whims corrupted and spoiled the minds of those who heard its name, and life withered and buckled at its touch. In its wake, kingdoms fell into chaos and entire forests were laid to ruin. This unspeakable demon was sealed within Thraa’s depths, where its corruptive influence would be staved off by cold bedrock. In the eons since the being’s imprisonment, the Thraa natives have forgotten its existence entirely, living in blissful ignorance of the malevolent blight squirming and writhing in the planet’s bowels.
However, in a vast and cruel multiverse, fate has a monstrous penchant toward the ruination of hope. The unnamed demon was not the only one of its kind, and, after countless millennia of searching, its siblings came calling. Teridax, the self-appointed master of this brotherhood, dispatched the most ruthless and cunning of their kind to confirm the presence of their lost brother. To what end the endeavor is destined, only Teridax knows for certain, but his band of marauders are not concerned with such thoughts. As is the nature of their kind, each is in possession of their own motives and are more than happy to be released upon the galaxy once more. regardless of the true reason for their mission, Thraa shall tremble.
The Brotherhood
Pedrox:
In eons past, Pedrox was one of the most cruel and ruthless interrogators the Brotherhood had ever known. The sheer suffering caused by his kanohi Mamae allowed him to extract information out of anyone with ease. This ability has also made him a terrifying adversary, as a simple glare could wrack an opponent’s body with excruciating pain. However, after a fateful assignment, Pedrox’s violent tendencies would subside. Pedrox was tasked with infiltrating a Fe Matoran village by disguising himself as a Toa of fire. In order to better convince the villagers, Teridax had Pedrox’s memory temporarily erased. He spent the next two decades acting as the villagers’ guardian to the point that he began to genuinely believe that he was a Toa. Once he had obtained the level of trust and information that Teridax wanted, Pedrox’s memory was restored and, in tandem with his long-time partner, Tidak, was set loose on the confused and terrified Matoran.
For a while after the incident, Pedrox had no memory of his experience in the village. However, as the centuries passed, Pedrox slowly began to recall his experience in the form of dreams and visions. With this in mind, it is easy to see why he was more than apprehensive when it came to interrogating the inhabitants of Thraa who were unfortunate enough to be brought to his citadel. His brothers still bring him natives they believe to possess knowledge on the whereabouts of Anvokhan, to Pedrox’s dismay. He has since become consumed by his guilt and seeks only to wander his fortress in peace, only acting when called by his brothers.
Mask: Kanohi Mamae - Mask of Agony – Inflicts pain on the victim. Type and degree of pain depends on the user’s preference, usually being based on the victim’s fears.
Weapon(s) and Abilities: All 42 Rahkshi Powers, Battle Axe
Created the imperfect Rahkshi of Electricity (Reversed coloration due to Pedrox’s poor Rahkshi creating skills / his hidden desire to leave the inhabitants of Thraa unharmed).
Sivis:
One of the more ancient members of the brotherhood, Sivis is widely considered the leader of whatever group he is in. However, it is not simply seniority that drives this loyalty. As is with any Makuta, being the most cunning and deadly being in the room demands respect, as anything less usually results in a swift and painful end. Had it not been for Sivis’ fierce loyalty to Teridax, he would have most likely been vaporized eons ago. Sivis’ age and reputation have also gifted him dark, forbidden knowledge.
Sivis has performed extensive research on Tren Krom and his telepathic abilities. This knowledge and his kanohi Menegaro give him an unnatural influence over the minds and sanity of others, as meeting Sivis’ tricloptic gaze is enough to turn even the most civil of scholars into a gibbering paranoid delusional. Upon arriving on Thraa, Sivis learned of the natives’ ability to “dreamshare” and not long after, discovered that he could use this to potentially spread a plague of insanity in order to reawaken Anvokhan. Sivis currently lurks in the shoreside caves, where he seeks to commune with a greater being that he believes to sleep beneath the waves.
Mask: Kanohi Menegaro - Mask of Madness - Induces a contagious manic paranoia in victims
Weapon(s) and Abilities: all 42 Rahkshi powers, Bident, Elemental Water Abilities (provided through staff), Tentacles
Created the Stasis Field Rahkshi. Sivis uses its abilities to keep his victims immobilized.
Avadox:
Since his creation, Avadox has enjoyed crafting different kinds of rahi. In fact, he enjoys this pastime so much, that he has become an adept in the field. However, it did not take long for him to realize that it was considerably more interesting to mutate normally docile rahi into violent killing machines. Much like a sadistic child with a butterfly and a set of tweezers, Avadox mainly focuses on his goal of rending nature. He seeks to do this by perfecting a mutagen capable of transforming any living being, including plants, into mindless, lethal peons for use in The Brotherhood’s army.
Ironically, when he came into contact with Stravekk’s Staff of Chaos, his reaction proved to be more extreme and distressingly permanent than either of them anticipated. Upon grasping the artifact, spider-like legs sprang from his back and began to thrash about wildly. Before the mutation could take full effect, Stravekk ripped the staff away from Avadox. It was soon discovered that, in addition to the new appendages, Avadox’s Kanohi Prohlakk had not only been warped into a revolting arachnoid visage, but also proved capable of spitting webs of acidic mucus. Avadox fervently resents Stravekk for the incident and avoids contact with him, the only exception being when all the Makuta are summoned.
When he is not generating new creatures, Avadox spends most of his time doing “field research”. After some study and experimentation, Avadox discovered that Thraa and its inhabitants share a strong bond, with some creatures being directly linked to the planet itself. It is Avadox’s belief that, if he can mutate enough of these creatures, the entirety of Thraa will bend to his will. Avadox currently studies the corruption that has spread within the caves of Grot and how he can weaponize it. He also experiments on the corrupted fauna that still call the caves home.
Mask: Kanohi Prohlakk - Mask of Transmutation - Allows the wearer to transform inanimate matter into whatever substance they wish (i.e. Protosteel into snot). Transformations remain active for as long as the wearer maintains focus, however damage done to the transformed object or substance in a softened state is permanent.
Weapon(s) and Abilities: All 42 Rahkshi Powers, Corruption Cannon, Spider Legs, Venomous Fangs, Acidic Mucus
Created the Rahkshi of Plant Control. Avadox enjoys watching it wreak its blasphemous chaos on the nature worshipping inhabitants of Thraa.
Tidak:
Tidak has always been one of, if not the most selfish of his brothers, often letting them suffer or even die rather than endangering himself. This is by no means because he is weak. In fact, alongside Pedrox, Tidak has led bloody siege after bloody siege upon countless worlds, with his swarms of undead minions ensuring a swift and merciless victory. After all, “an army that recruits through the deaths of its opponents is seldom beaten” (Tidak to Pedrox). Normally, a user of the kanohi Tekora can only make a maximum of two zombies at a time, as the mask infuses said zombie with the life-force of the user to do so. However, Tidak, being as exploitative as he is, has found ways to circumvent this limit.
Wielding a pair of Kalykir blades (weapons that drain the life-essence from its victims), Tidak siphons a victim’s energy into himself, only to imbue the newly deceased enemy with the same energy, leaving the cadaver as an undead husk waiting for orders. Tidak stores any excess energy within his kanohi Tekora in case he dies. If such an event does take place, the mask releases this energy back into the user (Tidak). Thanks to his Kalykir blades, Tidak can then rejuvenate himself afterward. Additionally, his zombies return their life-energy to him upon their deaths, making Tidak virtually immortal. However, even with this apparent mastery over death, Tidak still fears for his life. For he knows that, without any of his tricks or weapons, he can be easily defeated and/or killed, and unlike the Toa or Matoran, a Makuta can never be brought back. Currently, Tidak stalks the Crystal desert in search of new recruits for his army, as well as means of gaining true immortality.
Mask: Kanohi Tekora - Great Mask of Undeath - siphons off a fraction of its user's life energy from their body to infuse into one or more cadavers. The life energy returns to the user upon the death of one the “zombies”. / siphons off a fraction of its user's life energy from their body, which it infuses the body with after death.
Weapon(s) and Abilities: Vampiric “Kalykir” Blades, all 42 Rahkshi powers
Created the Rahkshi of Density Control. Uses its abilities to slow down victims so they can be drained more easily.
Saktul:
Saktul relishes the fact that he as a Makuta has no organic parts to worry about damaging. Because of this, he regularly augments his already mechanical body with more lethal upgrades. Even though he is already capable of flight due to his natural abilities, Saktul has fitted a large turbine to his back. He also has a plethora of mechanical enhancements fitted to various parts of his body, which includes an ion blaster attached to his right claw. The only part of his body that he has not upgraded in some way is his kanohi Wakaru, which he uses to confuse his opponents. Saktul’s reputation for being the fastest Makuta in the skies has spawned an irritating haughtiness that, in addition to his raspy voice and pestering personality, his brothers only tolerate because of his talent for espionage. Saktul uses this combination of upgrades, speed, powers, and pestering nature to his advantage in battle; often intentionally overloading the thruster on his back to make a thick smokescreen before shredding an opponent.
Although he appears to be a maniacal trickster on the surface, Saktul is actually a calculating strategist. He uses his opponent’s perspective of him as a gibbering psychopath to lull them into a false sense of security. His favorite tactic is to wait for his enemy to come up with a plan, only to turn to them and use his true voice to explain why their plan will end in failure. This real voice can be described as low and soft; traits that he uses to honey his words when he wishes to either convince someone of something or to mock a victim; the latter being the more common application. Saktul regularly patrols the skies and knocks down any creatures that fly too high or too close to him, as he sees this as a personal insult.
Mask: Kanohi Wakaru - Great Mask of Incomprehension - scrambles both spoken and written languages
Weapon(s) and Abilities: all 42 Rahkshi powers, Antidermis claws, talons, and wings, Ion blaster
Created the Rahkshi of Plasma. Strange discoloration due to Saktul’s hasty creation of said rahkshi.
Stravekk:
Stravekk’s cold personality is not merely due to his affinity for the element of ice, though it may be a contributing factor. Since his inception, Stravekk has been interested in the workings of the rahi and rahkshi that the other makuta made. Over the eons, however, his innocent curiosity slowly soured into morbid obsession. He began constructing amalgam abominations from parts of rahi, rahkshi, and whatever he could get his claws on. Stravekk eventually found an artifact off the coast of his island. After a few short experiments, Stravekk learned that, when held, the staff caused the user to become the center a miniature solar system, with nearby objects becoming makeshift planetoids and other celestial bodies. Further testing revealed that the aforementioned staff actually had varying effects, depending on the user. The first example of this is when Avadox attempted to use it, only to sprout spider legs from his back; an event that he has never forgiven Stravekk for. After learning of the staff’s true nature, Stravekk dubbed it, “The Chaos Staff”.
With his newfound ability, he began to experiment with the forces of the universe, such as light and gravity. However, in order to properly test the entropic nature of time, Stravekk realized that he would require a way of manipulating it. Luckily for him, one of his sisters that patrolled a neighboring island, Vutrukih, possessed a kanohi with just such an ability; the Kanohi Memeha – The Mask of Aging. Though he lost his arm and most of his lab in the process, Stravekk succeeded in stealing her mask.
Both Avadox and Pedrox proceeded to detain him and bring him back to Destral, where he would be imprisoned for the next 2,000 years. However, Teridax, during his rebellion, saw a use for the combination of Stravekk’s lack of conscience and affinity for the perverse, and thus freed him. Stravekk felt right at home among these new, more cruel, brothers and sisters. After returning to his island laboratory, he found that his Staff of Chaos was missing. having been taken by Teridax as payment for his release.
Mask: Kanohi Memeha - Great Mask of Aging, (Formerly, Kanohi Mohtri – Undecided Power
Weapon(s) and Abilities: all 42 Rahkshi powers, Razor claw, Surgical Tools, (formerly possessed) Chaos Staff (ancient artifact whose effects vary depending on the user)
Created the Rahkshi of Chameleon. Strange discoloration due to advanced age of rahkshi shell (Enjoys using his mask to “experiment” on his rahkshi).
The Rahkshi
The Roamers:
• Voirahk, the Rahkshi of Electricity: Mostly wanders Thraa, as it was not given any specific orders by Pedrox other than “Go on patrol.”. Although it was imbued with great physical strength, its powers of electricity are sorely lacking (as well as its reasoning). This is due to Pedrox intentionally using an inferior kraata to create his rahkshi. In addition, its “unprogrammed” state has left it fairly docile; most likely another of Pedrox’s attempts at leaving the people of Thraa unharmed.
• Surahk, the Rahkshi of Plasma: Because Saktul is too hairbrained to monitor his spawn, he simply let it loose upon Thraa with the simple order to “Sow mayhem.”. Thus, the rahkshi does nothing else.
• Bomarahk, the Rahkshi of Plant Control: Because Thraa’s people are very close to nature and rely on it for their livelihood, Avadox thought it would be amusing to observe Thraa rejecting its inhabitants. Therefore, the makuta created his rahkshi with the sole purpose of turning Thraa against itself.
The Hunters:
• Bamarahk, the Rahkshi of Density Control: Reflecting his own selfish personality, Tidak created his rahkshi to act as nothing more than a minion for his own diabolical ends. His creation wanders the Crystal Desert, searching for new victims to give its master. It uses its powers to tire these travelers so that Tidak can “recruit” them with ease.
• Sukorahk, the Rahkshi of Stasis Field: Sivis uses his rahkshi to capture and restrain victims so that he can more easily steal their sanity. He then releases these babbling unfortunates upon Thraa to spread his plague of madness. He also uses the rahkshi as a guard dog to keep prying eyes away from his shoreside caves.
• Nuarahk, the Rahkshi of Chameleon: Stravekk originally created his rahkshi as a test subject to use his aging powers on. Consequently, the rahkshi is rather fearful of its cold master. Nevertheless, it still obeys Stravekk by using its stealth abilities to lure the unwary up the tallest peaks of H’Rar, where the calculating makuta awaits within his mountainside laboratory of horrors.
