Creating large scale 3D models using a build volume of 9.9" L x 7.8" W x 5.9" H, has been a very interesting & challenging process for us here at Zephyr Laboratory. As committed Destiny players we focused our builds on models from the game that we felt were unique and exotic. We started out downloading, printing, and building many models from the 3D modeling community. By taking advantage of 3D print libraries such as http://myminifactory.com or http://www.thingiverse.com/ we first focused on printing techniques to achieve the best print quality with the least amount of support material, time and assembly. Next we explored many different types of glues to find the best method to adhere the parts for maximum stability(we are still researching the nature of gluing PLA plastics). The models we printed were are great start but soon we found there was room for improvement and began modifying the models to enhance their presence and functionality. The Lab is currently setting uppainting and sanding booths to create a safe environment for giving the models their final touches. Whether your Printing, welding, gluing, sanding or finishing your 3D model attention to detail will really bring these creations to life.
